I seriously don't know what kept women sane before spa visits became readily available, maybe that's why women used to die young (who could handle all that stress?). So, in good judgement, 4 of us girls decided to spend a quality day doing nothing but eat, drink, and be pampered.
We started out having brunch at the Los Gatos Cafe. It's an unassuming little cafe in the neat downtown Los Gatos, and it serves this amazingly light and fluffy version of an omelette they call the "souffle omelette". Wow, no kidding, this omelette looks like a regular omelette being inflated with helium, it actually resembles a sponge cake more than it does eggs. Unfortunately, I couldn't really tell how it tastes since I'm once again cold-stricken and congested (my gal-pals seem to approve though). The Californian eggs benedict also received high marks from us discerning diners.
With our bellies full, we're then supposed to go wine tasting at various wineries in the Santa Cruz mountains. Unfortunately, as a result of over-chatting, lack of navigational skills (we did have GPS, which makes it that much more sad), and poor time management, we only get to visit one winery- the Byington Winery. Nothing too spectacular, and if we knew that we only had time for one, we would have opted for the 2nd on the list, Bonny Doon, which we heard produces more impressive wines. Oh well, we tried, we drove around for an hour and it just didn't want to be found. We weren't intoxicated either, I swear. Better luck next time, I guess.
The highlight of the day has to be our visit to the Chaminade Spa. The Chaminade is a hotel/conference ground located in Santa Cruz. Its grounds' beautifully kept, and it has an awesome view of the Santa Cruz mountains, very nice and relaxing.
We each got our beauty treatment, then spent some time relaxing on the patio complete with a koi pond, admiring the view, and engaging in more girly chit-chats while munching on a cheese plate. It's unimaginable that I almost skipped out on this fabulous-ness because of my stupid cold- and how did I think I was going to feel better curling up in fetal position at home as opposed to spending a day getting pampered with my girl friends? Even though I've completely lost my voice by the end of the day, I'm glad I made the right choice.
